Rope stropped block for 1/4" line
Rope stropped block for 1/4" line
Upgrade the look of your small wooden boat without sacrificing any performance!
Few small objects evoke the era of square rigged wooden ships as much as a traditional block. These small rope stropped blocks are suited to the sort of small open boats with traditional rigs that can be sailed when the winds are fair, and rowed when the wind dies down or safety dictates caution.
Wood is locally sourced ash. The shells have received 7 coats of varnish. Rope grommets are Hempex for an authentic feel but to provide many years of trouble free service. Seizings are of tarred seine twine. Brass thimbles are made in-house of solid brass. Sheaves are Harken 22mm Micro Sheaves to ensure stellar performance.
From the final shaping of the shells, to the varnishing, making of the rope grommets, thimbles and seizing, a lot of love and traditional marlinspike skills go into making each one of these. With the occasional fresh coat of varnish these will provide many years of service.
These are available with a 1/2” thimble and strop of 4mm line or 5/8” thimble and strop of 6mm line. The larger thimble will provide a larger opening to accommodate a wider range of options for where you attach your block. The smaller thimble and line make for a lower profile block and more closely resemble the proportions of larger rope stropped blocks. The maximum working load of the sheave( 200lbs) will likely be exceeded before the strength of the strop in either case unless the strop has become significantly worn through use.
These are sized for line up to 1/4” diameter.
Approximate dimensions with 1/2” thimble and 4mm strop: 3” by 1-1/4” by 1-1/16”
Approximate dimensions with 5/8” thimble and 6mm strop: 3-1/2” by 1-3/8 by 1-1/16”
